Little Madison had her 4 month check up and shots yesterday. She was diagnosed with a condition called Torticollis. Basically, she was so cramped in my stomach, the muscles on one side of her neck never got to stretch out as much as the other side, resulting in that cute little head tilt she has done since birth. The doctor told us at her two month visit that she should be straightening out soon with continued strengthening of her neck muscles. However, yesterday after an exam and no noticed improvement, she was officially diagnosed. Thankfully, she has a very mild case of it, and she does a super job at moving around, so she has no other ill effects from the condition. Apparently, with most cacses of torticollis, the child is unable to move their head around much and the side they lay on becomes severely flattened, resulting in the child having to wear one of those oh-so attractive helmets. Madison doesn't have to wear a helmet since she has good mobility and a normal head, but she does have go start going in for physical therapy.
As per our doctor, a short bout of physical therapy, involving stretching and exercizes for Madison, should quickly resolve her particular case.
We were challenged in Relief Society to write down something we are greatful for every day, and knowing me it will be more like once a week, but today, I am thankful for skilled doctors able to diagnose the things that might go unnoticed, and for the fact that Madison's condition is easily fixable and not severe.

I am glad to hear the little cutie will be ok. :D She is such a trooper :D
Wow, never knew about this before! It truly is wonderful the things science and medicine help us know these days. She is beautiful, Meghan!
I'd never heard of that condition either. I'm glad it's a mild case! And hooray for physical therapists, too!
Actually, it doesn't sound too much worse than those of us who spend too much time in front of a computer or doing other things that put unnatural strain on our neck and shoulders. Find out from her therapist if you can do neck massage on her. If so, that should help facilitate balancing the muscles. As if you really needed unsolicited advice. ;->
Hope she and you recover from all your pains-in-the-necks quickly!
LOL, I'll never be finished with pains in the neck , but thanks all the same! Yah, It's easily fixable now, but if left untreated it can cause all sorts of physical and mental delays. She is such a patient baby. I've been trying to massage her and get her started stretching out since her therapy isn't till the 31st. She loves the massage but not the stretching :(
What a beautiful baby you have, Meghan! (Must come with the name ;) ) I'm so glad her condition is easily fixed- those have got to be some of the best words you can hear from a doctor. Good luck and hope Madison keeps doing better!
